Flender Supplies Clydeport Cranes
Three massive coal stackers/reclaimers at Clydeport, Scotland’s ship-to-shore coal terminal, are currently being equipped with Flender Motox geared motors as part of a major refurbishment.
Clydeport shifts maintenance manager Willie Caig said it was the first time Clydeport had specified Flender gear units, although Flender supplies many port cranes and gantries worldwide: "Although we are specifying 20 geared motor units per stacker, we could actually run one of these stackers using just 12 of the new Flender units. We’re very happy with their performance."
The Motox units are built from stock at Flender’s Bradford factory. They are all KA148M132MB4 units for ease of maintenance and parts replacement. Robust, high efficiency helical bevel geared motor units, their closed motor arrangement removes the requirement for a separate motor baseplate and also prevents any associated alignment problems. They incorporate special cassette seals for high dust environments and bore sizes of 90mm to line up with the existing bores.
The port uses the stackers to store coal from all over the world (including Australia, Columbia, China and Russia) and then reclaims the coal into either rail wagons or ships. The refurbished stackers/reclaimers are each capable of handling up to 2800 tonnes of coal per hour.
