Sales Team Changes

As part of our general restructure to focus on improved service, we have made some changes to our sales team's roles and responsibilities. Gary Husband becomes service sales manager, concentrating on a number of key industries that Flender is heavily involved with. Dave Dyer becomes project sales manager, focusing on the 'heavy industries' of materials handling, steel, cement and power generation. Both will have internal Flender support to help them carry out their new responsibilities accordingly.

Service Developments

Gary HusbandWe are always looking closely at ways of continuing to improve our service standards, and are currently reorganising our internal factory systems to provide greater levels of service for both the refurbishment and repair of gearboxes. In addition, we have identified that OEMs often have special, unique needs best satisfied by dedicated specialists, and in line with this we have appointed Gary Husband Flender service sales manager. Gary has been at Flender since the early 1980's, most recently as regional sales manager for the South East. He will now focus much more on the service needs of Flender customers all over the UK.

Our second stand at this leading industry exhibition (14-16 March, Telford) promises to be an exciting one, with a few surprises planned! The show theme this year is Fleming's 007, so look for James Bond lookalikes all over the place! You can even try to ski like Bond by taking part in our Ski Challenge to raise money for charity. Don't forget to visit the Flender stand (S38) - you should have no problem finding it, just follow the giant footprints!

Go Karting Fun in Kent

Tim KitchenhamLast Autumn, Flender's south-east customers took part in an evening of Go Kart Fun to relive their dreams of being the next Damon Hill!

Held at Buckmore Park, which claims to be England's finest outdoor kart circuit, customers took part in a two-hour mini pro-kart grand prix with a series of quick-fire heats followed by a grand final. Participants raced on th 1200-metre international circuit in twin engine karts modelled on competition machinery, and capable of 75 mph. Johnny Herbert began his racing career at Buckmore Park!

Fastest lap of the evening came from Tim Kitchenham of BSL, who also finished overall winner, though at times the competition was pretty fierce. One customer wrote that he wondered if it might be a 'younger person's sport' but said he was looking forward to a return match anyway!

International News

Bocholt ManufacturingFlender has global manufacturing facilities from Brazil and the USA to India, producing all types of gearboxes, components and couplings. If you visit Flender head office in Bocholt, walk up to anyone in the street and there's a good chance he or she either works for Flender, or is related to someone who does. A massive complex exists for both worldwide administration and manufacturing, and Flender is so big in Bocholt that the company founder even had a street named after him!

A tour round the manufacturing facilities of Bocholt will leave you in no doubt as to the scale and scope of Flender operations worldwide - from drives for cement mills in China to bucket wheel excavators for the world's largest lignite mines in Thailand, it soon becomes apparent why Flender is one of the planet's largest and most successful gear unit manaufacturers.

product imageScrew Pump Gearboxes for Spaans

Our FZG bevel helical gearbox continues to prove itself in a variety of challenging environments. Spaans Babcock has specified three screw pump gearboxes, based on the FZG, for norh West Water effluent Treatment plant.

The screw pumps operate on the simple but effective Archimedean spiral principle, lifting large volumes of water to different heights within the sewerage process. The capacity of each screw pump is 2,570 litres/second.

The B3 SH13 screw pump design is mounted at 30° below the horizontal and fitted with a backstop. It has a forced lurication system and a Flender Rupex coupling size RWN 710 on the output shaft.
