South West Water Insists on Siemens Gears & Drives

South West Water Insists on Siemens Gears & DrivesMajor UK utility South West Water is now specifying Siemens Automation & Drives’ high efficiency Flender Motox geared motors on all of its sites, as part of its ongoing drive to improve operating efficiencies and maximise asset life.

Mike Kinsey, technical support manager (mechanical-electrical) at South West Water said the utility carried out extensive assessments over a 12-month period before making the selection, taking into account whole life cost, value and performance, including visits to where the Flender Motox units are assembled in Bradford, Yorkshire.

Flender Motox geared motors incorporating eff1 motors from Siemens were specified due to their high performance, reliability and low maintenance features and over the next few years the company plans to replace all of its older or obsolete geared motors with Siemens units.

For Siemens, account manager Andrew Reeks commented: “We’re delighted South West Water has selected these high-efficiency units. This latest success, alongside winning the motor contract for high efficiency Siemens motors in 2007, now partners South West Water and Siemens in best practice for these products.”
